  • Q: How to overhaul an A/C Condenser with a receiver condenser assembly on 2004 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step for condenser HVAC with receiver condenser assembly overhaul requires the use of Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to discharge refrigerant from the refrigeration system. The technician must remove the front fender liner LH and front fender liner RH before taking out the front bumper cover and inverter bracket No.1. The discharge hose sub-assembly requires removal of its bolt then O-ring before sealing the openings with vinyl tape to stop moisture together with foreign matter entry. Unfasten the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe E from the condenser assembly through bolt removal and O-ring removal while sealing the pipeline openings. Disassemble the 4 bolts from each upper portion of the radiator support sub-assembly to remove it. You should remove the receiver condenser assembly once you detach its 2 angles and 2 bolts. Possess a straight hexagon wrench 14 mm (0.55 in.) for cap and O-ring removal while pliers should do the final cooler dryer uninstallation. Use new O-rings combined with 2.9 Nm (30 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf) torque when you secure the cap of the new cooler dryer after applying compressor oil (ND-OIL 11) on O-ring and the cap fitting surface. Use 2 bolts to fasten the receiver condenser assembly while applying torque of 3.9 Nm (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) and position the 2 angles. Reinstall the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH and LH while tightening each bolt according to the specification. Seal pipe E of the cooler refrigerant liquid by applying a new O-ring and compressor oil which must be fastened with a bolt at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Install the discharge hose sub-assembly by applying new O-ring and compressor oil before tightening the bolt at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). The technicians should replace the above-listed parts in their specified torque or order: inverter bracket No.1, front bumper cover and front fender liners RH and LH. Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) is used for refrigerant charging with 450 degrees Celsius 30 g (15.87 degrees Celsius 1.05 oz.) amount. Following the protocol, the compressor is warmed before inspecting for refrigerant leaks.
