The A/C Condenser of Toyota Prius cars is actually a heat exchanger that is used to cool the gaseous refrigerant which then has to turn to liquid form as it moves to the accumulator. Normally located ahead of the radiator, this part has intricate tubes through which cooling generally occurs. It can be said that when presenting an overview of the A/C Condenser, the possible differences in its designs throughout the models of Prius are not indicated, but there is a general similarity in their functioning, as main attention is paid to refrigerant. The A/C Condenser is very important component of a vehicle as it helps in regulating cabin temperatures to make the passengers comfortable during drives.

Toyota Prius A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the A/C Condenser and connect the necessary components on Toyota Prius?
    A:
The assembly of condenser with receiver requires 2 bolts that need a torque of 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf). If a new condenser has been installed then fill it with 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.) of ND-OIL 11 or equivalent compressor oil. Afterward attach the two angles to the condenser system. Attach the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH to its location using four bolts that must be tightened to specific torque values: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf) on bolt 1 and 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf) on bolts 2 and 4. Additionally, secure bolt 3 using 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf). The procedure should be repeated for connecting the radiator support sub-assembly upper LH. The installation of cooler refrigerant liquid pipe E requires users to first remove vinyl tape, install a new O-ring, apply ND-OIL 11 to both fittings and the O-ring surface before connecting the pipe to the condenser using 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 47 in-lbf) torque. Attach the pipe to the condenser by using a bolt according to the specified torque value of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 47 in-lbf). To connect the discharge hose sub-assembly to the condenser handle both parts by removing vinyl tape then placing a new O-ring before applying ND-OIL 11 while tightening the bolt at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 47 in-lbf). The installation order includes the No. 1 inverter bracket and front bumper cover and front fender liner RH and front fender liner LH. The service procedure concludes by charging the refrigerant system followed by warming the compressor while also detecting refrigerant leakages.
  • Q: How to remove the A/C Condenser on Toyota Prius?
    A:
The first step to remove the HVAC condenser requires the discharge of refrigerant material from the refrigeration system. The next procedure requires removal of both front fender liner LH and the opposite front fender liner RH. Remove the front bumper cover and continue the following steps. You need to detach the No. 1 inverter bracket subsequent to other bracket removals. Begin by removing the bolt which enables disconnecting of the discharge hose from its connection to the condenser (with receiver) before extracting the O-ring from the discharge hose. The disjointed parts of the discharge hose and condenser require vinyl tape sealing at their openings to stop the entry of moisture along with foreign substances. Unbolt and displace the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe E from the condenser (with receiver) while also extracting the O-ring which resides in the pipe E. Use vinyl tape to protect all open hose and pipe ends after cutting them loose from their original connections. First detach the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH through bolt removal then proceed with taking down the radiator support sub-assembly upper LH following the same method. The procedure ends by unmounting angles from both sides and removing the two condenser bolts to extract the condenser assembly with receiver.
