2005 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Compressor in an electric inverter system on 2005 Toyota Prius?
A: Begin electric inverter compressor assembly replacement by taking out rear floor board No.2, the deck floor box rear and rear floor board No.3. Disconnect the battery negative terminal and uninstall the service plug grip. Special Service Tool (07110-58060 and 07117-58080/07117-58090) along with 07117-78050, 07117-88060 and 07117-88070 and 07117-88080 can be utilized to discharge refrigerant from the refrigeration system. Seal off the discharge hose sub-assembly by disconnecting its bolt and O-ring while using vinyl tape to block moisture and foreign material intrusion. The same procedure should also be used for the suction hose sub-assembly. To remove the electric inverter compressor assembly start by releasing the green lock and disconnecting its connector before loosening three clamps and bolts. The service valve must be used to release helium slowly as you replace the compressor unit while proper oil amounts are drained from the new electric inverter compressor through appropriate procedures that include checking for oil leakage and utilizing only ND-OIL 11 as the compressor oil. The electric inverter compressor assembly needs two bolts to be fastened temporarily followed by full torque at 25 Nm (255 kgf.cm, 18 ft.lbf) based on the specified tightening order. Follow the wire harness installation by securing the green-colored lock. For the suction hose sub-assembly install its new O-ring with a bolt appropriate torque of 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Repeat the same operation for the discharge hose. Service the plug grip then reconnect the battery negative terminal followed by reinstalling rear floor board No.3 as well as the deck floor box rear and rear floor board No.2. Refrigerant charging requires Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to reach a pressure of 450 plus or minus 30 g (15.87 plus or minus 1.05 oz.). The system then requires compressor heating before a leak test.
