2006 Toyota Prius A/C Condenser Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the A/C Condenser in a refrigeration system on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: As a first step unload the refrigeration system of refrigerant before proceeding to take off the front fender liner LH and RH and front bumper cover. The procedure requires bracket No. 1 removal followed by disconnection of the discharge hose sub-assembly by unbolting it and removing its O-ring. Close off all entries using vinyl tape to stop moisture and foreign objects from penetrating. Disconnect the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe E to the condenser by removing its bolt and O-ring then seal the openings as done previously. Remove the condenser assembly with receiver by taking out the 2 angles then the 2 bolts from the radiator support sub-assembly upper RHS and LHS by removing each of their 4 bolts. Installation begins with two bolted condenser assembly with receiver installation at 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) torque followed by installing the two angles. Connect the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe E to the condenser by applying compressor oil (ND-OIL 11) along with a new O-ring on the fitting surface. Torque the connection to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). To assemble the discharge hose sub-assembly connect the components while using a new O-ring and compressor oil, then tighten the connection at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). The procedure requires reinstallation of the No.1 inverter bracket together with the front bumper cover followed by both front fender liners. Before finalizing the process you need to fill the refrigerant then warm the compressor followed by an inspection to search for any potential refrigerant leaks.
