2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace an A/C condenser in a refrigeration system on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step in removing and replacing a condenser involves a discharge of refrigerant from the refrigeration system. Begin the condenser replacement by removing the front fender liner LH and front fender liner RH and front bumper cover. You need to remove the No. 1 inverter bracket followed by disconnecting the discharge hose sub-assembly through its bolt and O-ring removal. Use vinyl tape to close the openings before disposing of the O-ring. The remover disconnects tube E of the cooler refrigerant liquid by removing its bolt and O-ring and seals all openings with vinyl tape. Remove the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH and LH by removing its 4 bolts from each section. You must detach the condenser assembly with receiver through the removal of 2 angles and 2 bolts. To install the condenser assembly with receiver start by securing the unit using 2 bolts that reach a torque setting of 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf). If you replace the condenser addition of 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.) of ND-OIL 11 or equivalent compressor oil is required. The 2 angles should be installed on the condenser before you can proceed with installing the radiator support sub-assembly upper RH and LH where 4 bolts need application with particular torque specifications. The connection of liquid pipe E to the condenser requires a new O-ring together with ND-OIL 11 application on the surfaces for installation of a bolt secured at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Attach the discharge hose sub-assembly with a new O-ring while also using an application of ND-OIL 11 until you finalize it with the specified bolt torque. The refrigerator system requires reinstallation of the front fender liners LH and RH and bumper cover and inverter bracket No. 1 before performing refrigerant charging and allowing compressor heating and checking for refrigerant leakage.
