2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the A/C Compressor on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step to remove the electric inverter compressor requires the removal of rear No. 2 floor board followed by deck floor box rear and then removing rear No. 3 floor board. The procedures start with disconnecting the negative battery cable then removing the service plug grip followed by discharging refrigerant from the refrigeration system before disconnecting the discharge hose sub-assembly through bolt removal and O-ring replacement and applying vinyl tape for moisture and foreign matter prevention. The suction hose sub-assembly requires the same disconnect procedure which should end with appropriate opening sealing. Through green-colored lock release workers will disconnect the connector and detach three clamps and separate the wire harness using insulated gloves to wrap tape around the connector. Drive out the electric inverter compressor assembly by unfastening its three bolts. During installation check the oil of the electric inverter compressor by using inert gas (helium) during valve service while draining according to the oil standard capacity guidelines. Following a temporary compressor bolt attachment with two pieces, complete the installation by bolting the compressor down with the same fittings while tightening them to a 25 N.m (255 kgf.cm, 18 ft.lbf) torque value using the specified sequence and followed by the same installation of the final bolt. Secure the wire harness clamps in three positions then link the connector and apply pressure to the green lock. A new O-ring needs ND-OIL 11 or equivalent compressor oil before installation to the suction hose with a securing bolt at 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Rephrase the steps for the discharge hose installation by using compressor oil at the same torque when securing the bolt. Follow up this procedure by completing initialization steps when system requirements call for it and then reconnect the negative battery terminal cable and install the service plug grip. The last steps include reattaching the rear No. 3 floor board together with the deck floor box rear and rear No. 2 floor board before conducting a charge of refrigerant followed by allowing the compressor to warm up to perform a leak inspection.
