2005 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2005 Toyota Matrix?
A: Draining the brake fluid must be the first step before vacuum brake booster replacement while thoroughly cleaning paint-contacted fluid residues. Start the procedure by detaching the air cleaner element followed by the air cleaner case sub-assy with its three bolts while also taking off the air cleaner cap sub-assy. Usage of Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 allows you to remove the brake master cylinder sub-assy before separating its push rod clevis. The cruise control actuator requires removal after turning loose its 2 nuts and single bolt before placing it away. The procedure for braking booster assy removal begins with draining brake fluid from tube No.5 with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 followed by sliding a clip to disconnect the vacuum hose. The technician then clears two or three brake tubes from their clamp before finishing with four nut and clevis removal steps to pull out the brake booster assy. Remove the brake booster gasket along with the check valve assy with grommet from the brake booster assy. To install the system first position the check valve assy with grommet before putting on the new brake booster gasket. You should install the push rod clevis followed by the lock nut after adjusting the brake pedal height before torquing the lock nut. Connect the 2 or 3 brake tubes to the clamp before inserting the vacuum hose while tightening the brake booster assy with 4 nuts to 12.7 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). The technician must use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to connect front brake tube No.5 while torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) with proper installation of the grommet. Attach the front wheel LH while torquing to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) and install the cruise control actuator assy with bracket by using 2 nuts and bolt and torquing to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Mount the brake master cylinder push rod clevis followed by the brake master cylinder sub-assy before fitting the air cleaner case sub-assy with 3 bolts while replacing the air cleaner element. End the installation by installing the air cleaner cap sub-assy before filling the brake fluid reservoir and bleaching the master cylinder with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 and bleaching the brake line while checking and adjusting brake pedal height and free play along with brake fluid levels and leakage testing and booster unit inspection.
