2005 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear wheel bearing on 2005 Toyota Camry?
A: The replacement of rear wheel bearing starts with wheel removal. Detach the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH by removing its bolt and disconnecting its rear flexible hose before taking out the 2 bolts that secure the caliper assembly and properly supporting it. For vehicles equipped with the disc rear brake type users must first separate the rear disc whereas drum rear brake type requires disconnecting the rear brake drum sub-assembly. When your vehicle contains ABS you should disconnect the skid control sensor wire before you take out the 4 bolts securing the rear axle hub & bearing assembly LH. To complete the installation move on to install the new skid control sensor only when ABS is present. Proceed to reinstall the rear axle hub & bearing assembly LH with its 4 bolts secured at 80 Nm (816 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.). The skid control sensor wire requires reinstallation. To check bearing backlash position a dial indicator at the center of the axle hub with a 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) maximum acceptance criterion; if the bearing backlash exceeds this threshold the axle hub assembly needs replacement. The measurement with the dial indicator should be taken at the hub bolt surface edge to check axle hub deviation. The maximum acceptable deviation is 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch) and if it is exceeded the axle hub assembly requires replacement. The rear disc for disc rear brake setups should be installed first along with the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH, which requires torquing the 2 bolts to 61.8 Nm (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.) and reattachment of the rear flexible hose with 18.8 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque. Installation of the rear brake drum sub-assembly for drum rear brake type requires you to install the rear wheel with a torque set at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The process ends by conducting inspections of rear wheel alignment along with ABS speed sensor signal signal check.
