How to service and repair the front wheel bearing on the LH side on Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Use Special Service Tool: 09930-00010 to remove both the front wheel and front axle hub LH nut before servicing or repairing the front wheel bearing of the LH side. The next procedure requires removing 2 bolts from the speed sensor front LH and front disc brake caliper assembly LH including a wire support for the brake caliper. Separate the sub-assembly of the tie rod end and front suspension arm lower No.1 LH through the use of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. Next remove the front disc to access the parts. Using a plastic hammer remove the front axle assembly LH by first marking the front drive shaft assembly LH along with the front axle hub sub-assembly LH then separate them while avoiding damage to the drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor. Use a screwdriver to loosen the front wheel bearing dust deflector No.1 LH. For extracting the front axle hub LH hole snap ring, snap ring pliers are necessary. The worker can use Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 along with Special Service Tool: 09950-00020, 09950-60010 (09951-00430), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) and a press to extract the bearing inner race from the front axle hub sub-assembly LH. Remove the disc brake dust cover front LH with a torx wrench (T30) by taking out the 4 bolts before using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to remove the lower ball joint assembly front LH. The front axle hub LH bearing needs to be pressed against Special Service Tool: 09527-17011, 09950-60010 (09951-00600), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) that aligns with the steering knuckle LH in a horizontal plane. The installation requires Special Service Tools: 09950-60020 (09951-00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) along with the press to insert the new front axle hub LH bearing. Follow the installation order of lower ball joint assembly front LH and disc brake dust cover front LH for the four bolts which need to be tightened to 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.). To install the front axle hub sub-assembly LH using Special Service Tool: 09608-32010, 09950-60020 (09951-00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) with a press it is necessary to use snap ring pliers to install a new front axle hub LH hole snap ring. Mount the front wheel bearing dust deflector No.1 LH with Special Service Tools: 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00031), 09608-32010 and a hammer by positioning the speed sensor hole correctly to align with the steering knuckle. Use the matchmarks to position the front drive shaft assembly LH on the front axle hub sub-assembly LH before fixing the steering knuckle LH with its 2 bolts and 2 nuts to the shock absorber assembly front LH through torque of 210 Nm (2,140 kgf-cm, 155 ft. lbs.) while using engine oil on bolt and nut threads. The technician should begin by installing the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH and subsequently attach the tie rod end sub-assembly LH followed by reinstalling the front disc and front disc brake caliper assembly LH with a torque of 107 Nm (1,090 kgf-cm, 79 ft. lbs.) while keeping the brake hose untwisted. Fitting the front axle hub LH nut requires a 30 mm socket wrench which needs to be torqued to 294 Nm (3,000 kgf-cm, 217 ft. lbs.) after performing stake and assessing looseness and runout. In the final step reinstall the front wheel before torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Follow by inspecting and adjusting the front wheel alignment and checking the ABS speed sensor signal.
