2005 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you replace the rear Suspension Strut Rod assembly on 2005 Toyota Camry?
A: The first step to replace the rear strut rod assembly requires removing the rear wheel. Disconnect the parking brake cable through screw and nut removal and detach the strut rod from the front side by removing its bolt and nut and maintaining the nut in position. Start by removing the bolt which restricts the strut rod from the rear axle carrier yet maintaining the nut fixed. Insert the rear strut rod through its bolt into the interior side of the vehicle before tightening it with the nut fixed into position. Screw the bolt into the inner part of the strut rod before tightening it to 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.) while maintaining the nut in position. Prolong the rear axle suspension stability with a wooden block jack and apply force to align the bolt of suspension arm assembly No. 1 at right angles to the rear axle hub center. The strut rod assembly installation requires complete tightening of the bolt to 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.) when the nut remains fixed. Following this, install the parking brake cable with its bolt and nut combination secured at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). The installation of the rear wheel requires a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) and checks for correct rear wheel alignment.
