2005 Toyota Camry Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you overhaul the front shock absorber with coil spring on 2005 Toyota Camry?
A: The process to overhaul a front shock absorber starts with removing the front wheel followed by disconnecting the front stabilizer link assembly by unwiring its LH nut. Ball joint movement with the nut requires holding its stud steady with a 6 mm hexagon wrench. First you should loosen the lock nut while leaving it in place before moving on to disconnect the front flexible hose No. 1 and speed sensor front LH for ABS models or just removing the front flexible hose No. 1 for models without ABS. Free the lower front shock absorber bolt by stopping its rotation and then remove the 2 lower nuts and 2 lower bolts. Avoid dropping the 2 washers if the front suspension upper brace center exists when installing the front shock absorber with coil spring and 3 upper side nuts. The front shock absorber will be fixed by attaching 2 bolts and 2 nuts to the bracket on the lower side and placing it in a vise. Special Service Tool 09727-30021 allows compressing the front coil spring LH without impact wrenches so technicians can take off the front suspension support sub-assembly LH, front suspension support bearing LH, front coil spring seat upper LH, front coil spring insulator upper LH, front coil spring LH, front spring bumper LH, and front coil spring insulator upper I LH. The inspection of shock absorber assembly front LH requires checking the shock absorber rod for abnormal resistance and unusual sounds by compression and extension movements. Replace the shock absorber assembly front LH if any unacceptable results are discovered. The shock absorber assembly installation process for the front LH side begins by placing the front coil spring insulator lower LH onto the shock absorber assembly then adding the front spring bumper LH to the piston rod followed by another application of Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 to compress the front coil spring LH. Position the front coil spring LH by sliding its lower end between the spring lower seat gap before adding the front coil spring insulator upper LH and the front coil spring seat upper LH which should have their marks facing outward. Attach the new front suspension support bearing LH and the front suspension support sub-assembly LH with orienting the mark toward the outside before securing the new lock nut with temporary torque. For the installation of the front shock absorber with coil spring, position it as illustrated, install the 3 nuts on the upper side with a torque of 80 Nm (816 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.), ensuring not to drop the 2 washers if the front suspension upper brace center is present, then install the 2 bolts and 2 nuts on the lower side with a torque of 210 Nm (2,141 kgf-cm, 155 ft. lbs.), stopping the bolt from rotating while torquing the nut, and fully tighten the lock nut to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.). The installation process includes attaching the front flexible hose No. 1 with ABS speed sensor front LH through a 18.8 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque or using identical torque when hose No. 1 faces ABS-free applications. The assembly requires the nut to be tightened at 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.) after using a hexagon (6 mm) wrench to immobilize the ball joint study. Front wheel torque must be set at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) following inspection and front wheel alignment adjustment.
