2005 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2005 Toyota Camry?
A: Draining clutch fluid should be the first step before removing both the brake master cylinder sub-assembly and brake booster assembly. To perform this task unscrew the clip holding the clutch reservoir tube while using a container to collect the fluid. Unscrew the two nuts to remove the clutch master cylinder assembly after taking out the hole pin and its clip and clevis whole pin from the clutch master cylinder push rod. Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 is required to disconnect the master cylinder from its flexible hose tube while you catch fluid in a container. Start by using a 5 mm pin punch and hammer to extract the slotted spring pin from the clutch master cylinder kit before taking out the inlet union along with its grommet to finally loose the lock nut then remove the push rod clevis and lock nut. To access the cylinder body snap ring you must remove its boot first while pushing the piston rod with snap ring pliers until it allows you to take the snap ring and push rod out. Continue with care as the piston may suddenly emerge. Set aside the stop plate together with the piston with spring from the cylinder while taking care to avoid damaging the inner cylinder body. The lithium soap base glycol grease coating should precede installing the piston with spring into the cylinder before carefully inserting the stop plate and push rod. The snap ring and boot installation starts by pushing the piston rod while you also install the lock nut and temporarily fasten the push rod clevis with the lock nut. Attachment of inlet union comes next after installing the new grommet where you should drive in the slotted spring pin with a 5 mm pin punch and hammer. Reinstall the 2 nuts to the clutch master cylinder assembly at 11.8 Nm torque (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) and apply MP grease to both hole pin and bush contact points before securing the clevis to the clutch pedal assembly using the hole pin and installing the clip last. Use Special Service Tool 09023-00101 to join the clutch master cylinder to the flexible hose tube while torquing to 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Continue by connecting the clutch reservoir tube with its clip onto the clutch master cylinder assembly while making sure the tube does not twist. The brake booster assembly joins with the brake master cylinder sub-assembly before master cylinder bleeding with Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 takes place, followed by brake line and clutch pipe line bleeding and filling the brake reservoir tank with clutch fluid then torquing to 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.). The procedure ends with checking the brake pedal height and inspecting and adjusting the clutch pedal sub-assembly before inspecting fluid leakage on both the brake and clutch system and verifying reservoir fluid levels.
