2005 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the radiator on 2005 Scion xB?
A: The procedure for radiator replacement begins with draining engine coolant and proceeding to disconnect the radiator hose inlets and outlets together with automatic transaxle oil cooler inlet and outlet hoses. The process begins with removing 3 bolts and a clip and the hood lock during grille and front bumper cover removal, and continues to the hood lock support brace by removing 5 bolts. Start by removing 2 clips to expose the radiator support opening cover before uninstalling the radiator support upper. First remove the connector from the horn assembly then break free the condenser from the radiator support upper with 2 bolts before finishing with the removal of 4 bolts from the radiator support upper. The radiator assembly requires disconnecting the cooling fan motor's connector then removing the radiator assembly from the engine compartment followed by detaching the fan shroud with fan by removing 3 bolts next taking off the water filler by removing 2 bolts and finishing with removing the 2 radiator support cushions along with the radiator support lower. The assembly of the radiator begins with placing the 2 radiator support cushions and radiator support lower onto the radiator then following with water filler bolt installation using 2 bolts at 7.5 Nm torque value and completing the process with attaching the fan shroud with fan using 3 bolts torqued to 7.5 Nm followed by connecting the cooling fan motor's connector. The installation process begins with mounting the radiator support upper using four bolts at 5.0 Nm torque and following this with the condenser attachment to the upper support by two bolts at 9.8 Nm torque and finally reconnecting the horn assembly connector. The installation requires the hood lock support brace secured with 5 bolts at 5.0 Nm torque and temporary installation of the hood lock assembly with 3 bolts and a clip for hood sub-assembly adjustment which leads to front bumper cover installation and engine coolant addition followed by engine coolant leak inspection.
