2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The first step to replace the brake actuator assembly requires draining brake fluid followed by cleaning off all fluid that touches painted surfaces. The brake repair starts by taking out the right-hand front wheel and proceeding through the front end panel hood seal and then the left hand and right hand front fender liners and finally removing the front bumper cover together with the left hand headlamp assembly. Disconnect the actuator connector then use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to remove the 6 brake tubes from the actuator with bracket while tagging or memorizing the connection order for reinstallation. Begin by disconnecting the two bolts and nut and the actuator with bracket while protecting the brake tubes and wire harness. Detaching the brake actuator assembly from its bracket becomes possible after stripping off the 2 mounting nuts. The correct procedure for brake actuator assembly installation involves securing two nuts afterward connecting the two bolts and nut with the actuator and bracket while achieving 19 Nm torque (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). During the installation process maintain the brake tubes and wire harness from damage while tightening the components in sequential order. The actuator connector should be connected while ensuring the lever is securely locked into place after which Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 must be used to connect brake tubes to the actuator with bracket and torque them to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). You must reinstall the front wheel RH after securing the front wheel nuts to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The fluid level should be checked in the reservoir after performing the master cylinder bleed with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 then bleeding the brake line and verifying the fluid level and conducting inspections for leakage before checking the actuator with a handheld tool. Ensure the vehicle readiness for headlamp aiming while performing inspection and adjustment checks properly.
