2004 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Front Wheel Speed Sensor (SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH) on 2004 Toyota Highlander?
A: Before you replace the Front Wheel Speed Sensor (SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH) you need to take off the front wheel and front fender splash shield sub-assembly LH. Unplug the speed sensor connector before removing the two clamp bolts that secure the sensor harness and clamp between body components and the shock absorber. Then take off the sensor bolt and Front Right Left speed sensor. Carefully prevent any outside material from touching the sensor end. Secure the new speed sensor FR LH with one bolt and apply 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) torque. Also verify that no dirt reaches the sensor tip. Install the seat sensor clamps at bolts A and B onto the car body and shock absorber while twisting the wire tightly. Tighten Bolt A to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs) and Bolt B to 19 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs). Connect the speed sensor to its original position and put back the front fender panel before replacing the front tire at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Additionally you need to evaluate the speed sensor output signal.
