    Q:
How to service and repair the front wheel speed sensor on Toyota Avalon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step towards serving or repairing the front wheel speed sensor requires you to take out both the front wheel and the front fender liner LH. To detach the speed sensor harness from body and shock absorber assembly start by disconnecting both the speed sensor connector and clamp before eliminating the 2 bolts. The first step involves uninstalling the bolt on the steering knuckle then unclamping the front speed sensor with removal procedures that include cleaning both the hole and surface after each uninstallation. During installation the front side LH speed sensor should be installed while using a bolt with a torque setting of 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) and protect the sensor tip from foreign particle contact. Secure sensor harness brackets using two bolts where they connect to the body and shock absorber assembly at proper torque values of 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) and 19 N.m (192 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf). Place the clamp on the steering knuckle without distorting the wire harness for the front LH speed sensor and then connect the speed sensor connector. The procedure ends with reinstalling the front fender liner LH and front wheel followed by torquing the wheel to 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf). Afterward, inspect the ABS speed sensor signal once without VSC and once with it.
