2004 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2004 Toyota Celica?
A: The Clutch Master Cylinder servicing requires stepping back to the brake booster before disconnecting the reservoir hose through pliers' help to release the clip and extract the hose from the inlet union while collecting fluid in a container. Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 should be used to separate the clutch line so fluid can be caught in a container. Take out the master cylinder through removing its two mounting nuts after extracting the clip and pin with needle-nose pliers. Disassembly starts with driving out the slotted spring pin from the inlet union by hammering a 3 mm pin punch and proceeding to eliminate both inlet union and grommet. The clevis becomes accessible after loosening the lock nut while you also remove the boot attached to the cylinder. The push rod removal process begins with pushing it toward the snap ring pliers before the snap ring extraction and the rod and washer can be removed. To complete the process end by taking away the piston together with its spring from inside the cylinder. Reassembly begins by coating the parts with lithium soap base glycol grease before inserting the piston with spring inside the cylinder where the push rod with washer receives installation through the piston which requires securing with the snap ring. Begin by inserting the boot into its cylinder location and fasten the lock nut and clevis temporarily before placing the new inlet union with grommet that requires a slotted spring pin installation. During assembly insert the master cylinder through two mounting nuts, torque them to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.), attach the pin along with the clip. Use Special Service Tool 09023-00100 to connect the clutch line and torque it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Afterward, attach the reservoir hose to the inlet union with its yellow mark facing upwards before using the clip to secure it. The brake booster should be reinstalled followed by filling the brake reservoir with brake fluid before the clutch system gets bled and the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted and possible leaks checked.
