2002 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace a Wheel Stud on the rear axle LH hub on 2002 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step to change the rear wheel stud requires removal of the rear wheel. Before working on the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH you must remove its 2 bolts and securely support the caliper. Proceed to remove the rear disc after the wheel separation. Install Special Service Tool 09628-10011 together with a screwdriver or equivalent tool to maintain the wheel stud position for its removal. When installing the new rear wheel stud you should place a washer along with a nut on the stud before using a screwdriver to maintain it in place during nut torquing. Secure the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH using its 2 bolts while tightening them to 58 Nm (592 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.) for 4WD models or 61.8 Nm (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.) for 2WD models. Rear wheel installation needs to be completed by applying torque until it reaches 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
