2001 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace a Wheel Stud on the Rear Axle LH on 2001 Toyota Highlander?
A: Start by taking off the rear wheel before removing the 2 bolts from the left-hand side disc brake caliper assembly. After that securely support the caliper while performing the replacement for the Rear Wheel Stud. First detach the rear disc [42431 / 98-63] and the rear axle LH wheel stud [42312E / 98-63] through the use of Special Service Tool: 09628-10011 combined with a screwdriver or a suitable tool to maintain bolt positioning. Lay a washer and a new nut on the wheel stud according to supplied illustrations followed by screwdriver maintenance until proper torque on the nut has secured the replacement bolt. Use the two bolts to attach the caliper with the rear disc brake caliper assembly on the left-hand side while torquing bolts to 58 Nm (592 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.) for 4WD or 61.8 Nm (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.) for 2WD. Reinstall the rear wheel afterward while torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
