2001 Toyota Camry Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2001 Toyota Camry?
A: The repair and service procedure of the suspension strut starts by removing the front wheel while tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). First remove the rotating clamp bolt that fastens the shock absorber clamp including the flexible hose and ABS speed sensor wire harness from the strut by using a torque of 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). To remove the shock absorber from the steering knuckle start by disconnecting the stabilizer bar link from the shock absorber then proceed to remove the shock absorber and bolts from the two lower steering knuckle nuts and bolts using a torque of 211 Nm (2,150 kgf-cm, 156 ft. lbs.) before taking the shock absorber off. Apply engine oil to threads of the nuts before installing them. Remove the shock absorber with the coil spring by using a 80 Nm (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.) torque to uninstall the three nuts, suspension support No.2, and shock absorber with the coil spring. The installation process requires rotating the suspension support before fitting it according to the provided direction. You should check the front wheel alignment as a final step after installation.
