Q: How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2000 Toyota Camry?
A: Start the suspension strut service work by taking off the front wheel while tightening it to a torque value of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The first step requires removal of the shock absorber bolt which demands a torque of 29 Nm (300 kgf.cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Separately detach the flexible hose and ABS speed sensor wire harness (if ABS is present) together with the clamp from the shock absorber. To disconnect the shock absorber from the steering knuckle first remove the lower side two nuts and bolts and apply 211 Nm (2,150 kgf.cm, 156 ft. lbs.) torque both removing and reinstalling the shock absorber from the knuckle while thread-coating the nut with engine oil. The procedure requires you to removes the shock absorber and coil spring by uninstalling all three nuts and suspension support number two and the shock absorber with the coil spring. Apply a torque of 80 Nm (820 kgf.cm, 59 ft. lbs.) when installing and rotate the suspension support according to the provided image. Evaluation of front wheel alignment should be the final step after equipment installation.
