    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Shock Absorber on Toyota Solara? Posted by Customer
    A:
A suspension strut requires servicing through the removal of the front wheel as the first step. The first step involves disconnecting the flexible hose and ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp from the shock absorber by removing a single bolt. The stabilizer bar link needs its nut removed but users should stabilize the stud with a hexagon (5 mm) wrench when the ball joint tries to turn with the nut. The first step of shock absorber coil spring removal involves untethering it from the steering knuckle using two bolts and nuts then removing the three suspension nuts on the shock absorber with coil spring. The installation of the shock absorber requires using three nuts to connect the coil spring while torquing them to 80 Nm (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.). Make sure the suspension support faces the proper direction. Insert the shock absorber to the steering knuckle followed by coating the threads of the two nuts with engine oil before screwing the two bolts and nuts with torque set to 220 Nm (2,250 kgf-cm, 162 ft. lbs.). The next step involves connecting the stabilizer bar link while torquing it to 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) using a 5 mm hexagon wrench if required. Secure the flexible hose by torquing the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp, then install the front wheel by torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). End the process by inspecting front wheel alignment.
