2001 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Avalon?
A: The Brake Master Cylinder requires fluid extraction through a syringe after removing the air cleaner cover with its hose and rinsing all oil from painted surfaces before they require washing. To begin servicing and repairing the Brake Master Cylinder operate by disconnecting the level warning switch connector and in addition disjoining the VSC reservoir hose for vehicles that have it. To disconnect the brake lines, Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 must be used. Thus, vehicles without VSC have the 4 brake lines removed from the master cylinder and 2-way while the torque reaches 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). The same tool is applied to vehicles with VSC to remove the 5 brake lines from the master cylinder and 3-way, again using a torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Use a wrench to remove the 2 mounting nuts from the top of the master cylinder then pull out the 2 or 3-way along with its gasket unless otherwise specified by Toyota. Torque the gasket to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Installation reverses the disassembly route while adjusting the brake booster push rod length correctly and filling the brake reservoir with fluid and bleeding the system before leak and brake pedal checks are completed.
