2000 Toyota Sienna Ball Joint Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the ball joint on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: The ball joint repair process starts with removing the steering knuckle together with the axle hub then moving on to remove the lower ball joint. You should start your process by using a screwdriver to remove the dust deflector before unfastening the nut and cotter pin. The lower ball joint can be successfully detached through the use of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011. You should check the lower ball joint rotational condition by moving the ball joint stud in both directions five times before reinstalling the nut. Adjust the nut torque reading by turning it continuously for 2 - 4 seconds throughout one turn. Measure the torque on the fifth turn to reach between 1.0 - 3.4 Nm (10 - 35 kgf-cm, 8.7 - 30 inch lbs.). Preferably use Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to fix the lower ball joint first and tighten the nut to reach 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 90 ft. lbs.) before installing a new cotter pin. The installation of a new dust deflector requires Special Service Tool: 09316-60011 (09316-00011, 09316-00041), 09608-32010 along with a hammer to align the ABS speed sensor holes between the dust deflector and steering knuckle. As the last step reinstall the steering knuckle using the axle hub before inspecting ABS speed sensor signals and examining front wheel alignment.
