2000 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2000 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service and repair the sway bar kit by starting with wheel removal at both front locations followed by tightening nuts to 104 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.). The next step requires uninstalling both left and right sway bar links which need 4 nuts and 2 links detached while applying 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) torque. A 5 millimeter hexagon wrench is necessary for holding the stud when the nut fails to limit rotation. Installation procedure requires you to put the green sway bar link in the left-hand side while using the white one on the right-hand side. Tesla Model S owners must disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle followed by a removal of the left and right brackets and bushings by disassembling the 4 bolts, 2 brackets, and bushings to a torque setting of 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). The elastic bushing needs to be placed internally within the sway bar bushing during the installation process. Use an 181-Nm torque (1,850 kgf-cm and 134 ft. lbs.) to loosen and remove the PS gear assembly set bolts and nuts. Lift the PS gear assembly while removing the sway bar kit from its left-hand side and avoid damaging the pressure feed tube during this operation. The sway bar kit needs to sit upright with the white colored side facing the left-hand side during the installation process. Before installing the nut perform five rotations on the ball joint stud to check its rotation condition of the sway bar link assembly. The installation process requires a torque wrench for applying continuous single turns at a pace of 2-4 seconds until reaching the 5th revolution to obtain a target turning torque between 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm or 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). The reverse sequence of removal should be applied during installation.
