2001 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2001 Toyota Sienna?
A: The sway bar kit repair process begins by disconnecting front wheels on both sides while tightening them to a torque of 104 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.). The next step requires removal of the left and right sway bar links through 4 nut removal and disconnection of 2 links while tightening the nuts to 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). A 5 mm hexagon wrench should be used to secure the stud while checking whether the ball joint moves with the nut. For sway bar kit installation position the green link on the left whereas the white link belongs on the right side. Profile the tie rod ends from the knuckle before pulling off the left and right brackets and bushings with 4 bolts, 2 brackets and bushings requiring 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs. torque). The elastic bushing needs to be placed within the bushing located on the sway bar kit before installation. Use the appropriate torque of 181 Nm (1,850 kgf-cm, 134 ft. lbs.) to remove PS gear assembly set bolts and nuts. Eliminate the left-hand sway bar kit slowly while raising the PS gear assembly so that the pressure feed tube remains intact. The sway bar kit installation process requires placing the white side toward the left-hand side. Prior to installing the sway bar link nut the technician should make 5 rotations of the ball joint stud by flipping it backward and forward. A torque wrench should be used to steadily turn the nut at a pace of one revolution every 2 - 4 seconds while taking the torque measurement on the fifth revolution to achieve a turning torque range of 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). All steps follow the opposite sequence compared to the uninstallation process.
