2002 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on 2002 Toyota Sienna?
A: You should start sway bar kit service and repair by disconnecting the front wheels on both sides at 104 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.) torques. Begin the process by disconnecting the sway bar links through nut removal and then removing the 4 nuts and 2 links while applying 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). Apply a 5 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud if the ball joint rotates with the nut. Position the sway bar links according to color markers by installing green on the left-hand side and white on the right-hand side. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckle before removing the left and right brackets and bushings with the removal of 4 bolts, 2 brackets and bushings at 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft.lbs.). Installation requires the elastic bushing to be situated inside the bushing located on the sway bar kit. The PS gear assembly set bolts and nuts must be removed with 181 Nm (1,850 kgf-cm, 134 ft. lbs.) torque. Use caution to strip the sway bar kit from the left-hand side when elevating the PS gear assembly to avoid harming the pressure feed tube. When installing the sway bar kit position it with the white colored surface facing the left-hand side. To test the ball joint rotation of the sway bar link inspect the ball joint stud by flipping it 5 times before applying the nut using a torque wrench with continuous rotations at a rate of 2-4 seconds to measure torque at the 5th turn within the range of 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). The reversing sequence of removal procedures is used to install the components.
