Q: How to service and repair the wheel bearing on 2000 Toyota Celica?
A: Service and repair operation of the wheel bearing starts with removal of the lower ball joint after dissolving its cotter pin and nut followed by use of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to separate the ball joint. To extract the inner race from the axle hub you must first employ Special Service Tool: 09520-00031 (09520-00040, 09521-00010, 09521-00020) followed by Special Service Tool: 09555-55010, 09950-60010 (09951-00380), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) using a press. Unscrew the 3 bolts of the dust cover by using a torx socket (T30). Install snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring then place the inner race on the outside of the bearing and use Special Service Tool: 09527-17011, 09950-60010 (09951-00650), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) with a press to remove the bearing from the steering knuckle. Modern tooling requires a new bearing installation into the steering knuckle using Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 (09951-00730), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) and a press before snap ring pliers install a fresh snap ring. Apply a torx socket (T30) to fasten the dust cover with its three bolts. Secure the bolts by tightening them to 8.3 Nm (85 kgf.cm, 74 inch lbs.). Use Special Service Tools 09608-32010, 09950-60010 (09951-00550), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) with a press to mount the front axle hub before tightening the lower ball joint nut to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft. lbs.) while inserting a new cotter pin then extending the nut up to 60 degrees due to possible misalignment of holes.
