Throttle Body

The service and repair work on throttle bodies begins with draining engine coolant followed by disconnection of the negative battery terminal cable and maintenance of a 90-second wait before proceeding. Start repairs by first unscrewing the 2 engine cover nuts and then disconnecting power wires from the mass air flow meter and purge VSV while you detach the wire harness clamp and disassemble the No. 2 ventilation hose, purge line hoses from throttle body and purge VSV, also remove the No. 1 air cleaner hose. To obtain access to the air cleaner assembly disconnect two hook clamps which then allows removal of the air cleaner cap followed by taking out the air cleaner filter element. To access the throttle body first disconnect the water by-pass hoses as well as the No. 1 throttle body hose and throttle position sensor and control motor connector and afterward remove the wire harness clamp and fuel tube from its place. Begin the procedure by removing the 4 bolts from the fuel pipe support and throttle body whereafter removing the gasket on the intake manifold. Apply a new gasket to the intake manifold before securing the throttle body and fuel pipe clamp through 4 bolts tightened at 30 N.m (305 kgf.cm, 22 in.lbf). At the same time, insert the fuel tube into the clamp and install the wire harness clamp. At the correct angle position the paint mark and hose clamp during connection of the throttle position sensor and control motor connector and the No. 1 throttle body hose and the No. 2 water by-pass hose. Perform the same process for connecting the by-pass hose to its manifold. Place the air cleaner filter element with proper orientation onto the air cleaner case before inserting the hinge part of the air cleaner cap while hanging the two hook clamps. The alignment of the match marks on the No. 1 air cleaner hose and throttle body must be accomplished before the hose is connected and the No. 1 air cleaner clamp is unfastened to maintain proper hose clamp positioning. The purge VSV with its hose should connect to the throttle body along with the purge line hose. At the same time the No. 2 ventilation hose must link to the cylinder head cover while maintaining correct positioning for all paint marks and hose clamps. Mount the wire harness clamp then link both the purge VSV connector and the mass air flow meter connector. The cable connections to the negative battery terminal should be reestablished followed by engine coolant addition while confirming no coolant escape occurs. After installation of the engine cover the final step involves torquing the 2 nuts to 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf) while specific systems need initialization after battery terminal removal.

Service and repair efforts for the throttle body assembly start with coupling drain of engine coolant followed by negating battery connection. Uninstall the Engine Cover Sub-Assembly No. 1 by removing its two retaining nuts. Disassembly of the air cleaner cap sub-assembly requires connecting the detachment of the mass air flow meter connector and VSV connector followed by unscrewing the wire harness clamp and disconnection of ventilation hose No. 2 from the cylinder head cover and fuel vapor feed hose No. 1 from the VSV then fuel vapor feed hose No. 2 from the throttle body along with air cleaner hose No. 1 from the throttle body. The final step involves unfastening the 2 hook clamps for air cleaner filter element removal from the air cleaner case. Proceed by removing the throttle body assembly though disconnecting water by-pass hoses and throttle body hose No. 1 together with throttle control motor connector and wire harness clamp followed by fuel tube from its clamp and removal of 4 bolts securing fuel pipe support before removing the throttle body and losing its gasket from intake manifold. To complete the installation fit a new gasket onto the intake manifold before attaching the throttle body and fuel pipe clamp with 4 bolts that need to reach 30 N.m (305 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf) torque while placing the fuel tube into the clamp and finally installing the wire harness clamp. The throttle body hose No. 1 needs to be connected with the throttle control motor connector while adjusting both water by-pass hoses to match their installed paint mark and hose clamp angle. The air cleaner filter element should receive proper directional placement before you install the hinge part into the air cleaner case while securing the 2 hook clamps. The matchmarks on the air cleaner hose No. 1 must face the throttle body before connecting and loosening the hose clamp No. 1. After connecting the fuel vapor feed hoses to throttle body and VSV and ventilation hose No. 2 to cylinder head cover users must install wire harness clamp and VSV connector and mass air flow meter connector. Rephrase the following sentence. Connect the battery negative terminal at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) then add engine coolant before inspecting for leaks followed by installing the engine cover sub-assembly No. 1 with 2 nuts torqued to 7.0 N.m (70 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf).

The first step to replace the throttle body requires draining engine coolant. Remove the combination of air cleaner cap and air cleaner hose. First disconnect the throttle body assembly by disconnecting the throttle control motor and throttle position sensor connector as well as the vacuum hose from the throttle body and both water bypass hoses. Begin by removing four bolts, fuel pipe support, throttle body and afterward you should remove the gasket. Connect the two water bypass hoses and the two vacuum hoses to the throttle body, and reconnect the throttle control motor and throttle position sensor connector.

Remove the front suspension upper brace center by taking off the 2 nuts and the upper brace.

Disconnect the throttle control motor and throttle position sensor connector, the vacuum hose from the throttle body, and the two water by-pass hoses.

Install using the four bolts, ensuring a torque of 30 N.m (305 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf).

Reinstall the air cleaner cap with the air cleaner hose, add engine coolant, and check for any coolant leakage.

Disconnect the VSV connector for EVAP, the VSV hose for EVAP, and the PCV hose, followed by removing the air cleaner hose.

Remove the air cleaner cap along with the air cleaner hose.
