Throttle Position Sensor

Service of the Throttle Position Sensor requires disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal then let it rest for at least 90 seconds to avoid activating seat belt pretensioners and Air Bags. The first step requires removing the throttle body assembly where the throttle body must come out then the Throttle Position Sensor requires screw removal of its 2 screws. The installation process requires the insertion of the Throttle Position Sensor through its 2 screws following a torque requirement of 2.0 N.m (20 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf). Afterward install the throttle body assembly then link the negative battery cable. After disconnecting and reattaching the negative battery terminal cable users must complete the initialization steps since specific systems request it.

The procedure to install a new throttle position sensor begins with removing the sensor along with its 2 set screws before attaching the new sensor. Adjust the throttle valve opening to 4 degrees while placing the sensor 15 degrees from its designated position to the left. Use a clockwise motion to move the sensor until it meets the throttle valve shaft before tightening the set screws briefly. Proceed to connect the throttle position sensor connector but prevent connection of the accelerator pedal position sensor connector and establish the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3. Set the ignition switch to ON and observe the throttle valve opening percentage (THROTTLE POS) from the CURRENT DATA screen during adjustment of the sensor to its central standard position. After positioning correctly tighten the screws to 2.0 N.m (20 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf) torque specification. Ensure to confirm the throttle valve opening percentage while repeating adjustments if the result falls outside the defined range. Conduct a manual operation of the throttle valve which should demonstrate a percentage between 10 and 14 according to specifications. Tighten the screws to a torque of 2.0 N.m (20 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf) before checking the throttle valve opening percentage once more. Re-adjust the sensor until the specifications are achieved. After adjustment of the sensor complete the process by painting the set screws and shutting off the ignition before detaching the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool from the DLC3. Finish by disconnecting the throttle position sensor connector. To install the accelerator position sensor replace the 4 bolts and attach the sensor using the bolts while tightening them to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). The inspection requires you to connect the sensor connector to the TOYOTA hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool with DLC3 and to turn the ignition switch ON without pressing the accelerator pedal. Check that the CURRENT DATA ACCEL POS #1 (VPA) measures 0.3 - 0.9 V. Check the system operation after installing the throttle body.
