The first step of spark plug installation requires tightening the 8 spark plugs to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf). Following that, install the 8 ignition coils through 8 bolts while maintaining a torque of 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf) and connect the 8 ignition coil connectors. Use a torque wrench to tighten the water by-pass pipe assembly onto the cylinder head cover and automatic transmission with 3 bolts at 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) before connecting it to the cylinder head cover and timing chain cover through 2 bolts with a torque of 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf). The next steps include mounting the air cleaner assembly and its accompanying hose assembly as well as the V-bank cover sub-assembly and completion by attaching the No. 2 engine under cover.

A 16 mm plug wrench should be used to bolt in the 8 spark plugs for the 2UZ-FE engine with a torque of 18 Nm (178 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). Position the 8 ignition coil assemblies with the help of 8 bolts which need to be torqued to 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf). Afterward, connect the 8 ignition coil assembly connectors. Next install the Bank 2 air switching valve assembly before attaching both the Bank 2 air tube and No. 2 air injection system hose. Proceed to connect the No. 1 water by-pass pipe before installing the front fender apron seal right-hand side. The technical sequences includes installing the air switching valve assembly for Bank 1 and the No. 3 air tube and the No. 2 air hose then putting on the front fender apron seal LH. To finish the installation place the throttle body cover assembly together with the air cleaner hose assembly.

The service of spark plugs in the 1GR-FE ignition system begins with V-bank cover removal and continues with No. 2 air cleaner hose and air cleaner assembly element removal. First disconnect the 6 ignition coil connectors and then remove the 6 bolts and ignition coils along with them. A 16 mm plug wrench with essential tools should be used to handle removal of the 6 spark plugs.

Maintenance of the spark plugs starts by removing the V-bank cover followed by detachment of the No. 2 air cleaner hose together with the air cleaner assembly and its element. The service on ignition coils begins when technicians unplug the 6 ignition coil connectors followed by removing the 6 bolts and their connected 6 ignition coils. A 16 mm plug wrench should be utilized to unfasten all 6 spark plugs.

Remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.

Install the air cleaner assembly, the air cleaner hose assembly, the V-bank cover sub-assembly, and finally, the No. 2 engine under cover.

Remove the No. 2 air hose and the No. 3 air tube.

20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf).
