    Q:
How to replace the Brake Pad Set on Toyota Echo? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to brake pad replacement begins with wheel removal followed by inspection of pad lining through the caliper hole to verify it exceeds 1.0 mm (0.039 inch); change the pads if this minimum measure is not achieved. User should suspend the caliper in place securely while keeping the flex hose connected by holding the sliding pin at the bottom until the installation bolt becomes loose then the user can remove the bolt without disconnecting the flex hose. Take out the brake pads together with the anti-squeal shims while you also remove the two pad support plates but you can reuse them when they display no damage and have no visible wear or deformation or rust contamination or unwanted particles. The technician must check disc thickness and runout before adding two pad support plates. Installation of new pads requires professionals to perform the replacement procedure for both the anti-squeal shims and pad wear indicator plates as a single unit. The installation sequence begins with disc brake grease applied to anti-squeal shims before placing two shims on both outer pad sides and another two on inner pad sides. Install the inner pad first with its pad wear indicator plate pointed upward and follow it by inserting the outer pad while maintaining the complete absence of oil or grease on brake friction surfaces. To continue the procedure draw out a tiny portion of fluid from the reservoir and compress the piston by hitting it with a hammer handle or comparable tool. When the piston proves difficult to compress slowly loosen the bleeder plug until some fluid can escape. After installing the caliper you should manually hold the sliding pin then use an installation bolt to fasten the caliper before torquing it to 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.). Install the front wheel while making sure that fluid reaches the maximum mark on the reservoir.

    Q:
How to replace the Brake Pad Set on Toyota Prius? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step is to check pad lining thickness by looking through the caliper inspection hole while the front wheel is off. Brake pad replacement becomes necessary when pad thickness reaches less than 1.0 mm (0.039 inch). Raise the caliper while holding the sliding pin in place and delete the bottom bolt before making sure the flexible hose stays attached to the brake caliper then secure the caliper in position. Disassembly begins with pad and anti-squeal shim removal together. After that take out the two pad support plates. Retention of the support plates becomes possible if they demonstrate no signs of wear, rust or cracks and no foreign materials are observed. The two pad support platesInstallation should only occur when disc thickness and runout are verified and assembled correctly without reversing the plates For new pad installation, users should change the anti-squeal shims while executing the following procedure: follow each pad with two anti-squeal shims on each side and position the inner pad with the upward wear indicator plate followed by outer pad installation while carefully avoiding contact between oil or grease and friction surfaces. To push in the caliper piston draw small brake fluid from the reservoir then use a hammer handle with tape on the end or similar tool; if the piston is resistant to push in then loosen the bleeder valve to spill some fluid. Secure the sliding pin and torque the installation bolts to 34 Nm while performing this operation. After installing the front wheel complete its torque procedure at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Then activate the brake pedal multiple times before verifying that the fluid reaches the maximum line.

    Q:
How to replace the front Brake Pad Set on Toyota MR2 Spyder? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start by taking off the front wheel then fasten the disc with hub nuts until the replacement work is complete. Check the pad lining thickness through the caliper inspection hole until you verify 1.0 mm (0.039 inch) minimum thickness. If the pads fall short of this mark, replace them. The shock absorber flexible hose requires removing of its bolt to disconnect it. Support the brake caliper by holding the sliding pin while removing the bolt on its lower side to prevent disconnection of the flexible hose before suspending it properly. The installation process requires removal of both pads with all four anti-squeal shims and the two pad support plates for inspection. Reuse the components if they remain undamaged, non-curable and free of rust, dirt and foreign materials. Verify disc thickness and runout before adding the two pad support plates because they must be installed in correct orientation. For new pad installation replace anti-squeal shims at the same time and then apply brake grease to both inner sides of the outer anti-squeal shims before putting two shims each on the outer then inner pad and finally install inside pads with downward pad wear indicator plate followed by the outside pad. All pad surfaces and disc areas should remain free from oil and grease contaminations. The caliper installation requires evacuating brake fluid from the reservoir and using a hammer handle or suitable tool to push the piston in after releasing the bleeder plug to let out some brake fluid. Mount the cylinder onto the torque plate by using its bottom installation bolt and holding the sliding pin before torquing the bolt to 34 Nm while applying 350 kgf-cm (25 ft. lbs. torque). Affix the flexible hose to the shock absorber then fasten the bolt and tighten it to 29 Nm (296 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.). Installing the front wheel requires 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) torque until the brake pedal gets depressed multiple times to verify the fluid reaches the max line.
