Camshaft

Remove the camshaft by uniformly loosening and removing the 10 bearing cap bolts and the 5 bearing caps, while holding the timing chain.

Apply engine oil to the journal portion, place it on the cylinder head aligning the paint mark with the timing mark, temporarily tighten the camshaft timing sprocket set bolt, check the front marks and numbers, and install the bearing caps. Apply engine oil to the threads and under the heads of the bearing cap bolts, uniformly tighten the 10 bearing cap bolts with No. 2 Bearing cap at 30 Nm (301 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf) and No. 3 Bearing cap at 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf). Then hold the camshaft with a wrench and tighten the camshaft timing sprocket set bolt to 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft-lbf).

Cover the paths with a cloth to avoid oil splashes.

Repeat the runout and cam lobe height inspections, ensuring the maximum circle runout remains at 0.03 mm (0.0012 inch) and the cam lobe height is within 45.983 to 46.083 mm (1.8104 to 1.8143 inch) and above 45.873 mm (1.8060 inch).

Finally, reinstall the drive plate & ring gear sub-assembly, exhaust manifold sub-assemblies, oil level gauge guide sub-assembly, automatic transaxle assembly, starter assembly, front frame assembly, engine wire, and the engine assembly with transaxle.

Install the camshafts while keeping them level, applying clean engine oil to the camshaft's cam portion and cylinder head journals, and temporarily tighten the bearing cap bolts.

Install chain tensioner assembly No.1, timing chain cover oil seal using SST 09316-60011 (09316-00011), timing chain cover sub-assembly, water inlet housing, engine mounting bracket front No.1 LH, cylinder head cover sub-assemblies (LH and RH), oil pipes, ignition coil assembly, intake air surge tank, oil pan sub-assemblies, crankshaft pulley, engine mounting stay No.2 RH, timing gear cover No.2, water pump pulley using SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700), V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly, engine mounting bracket RH, idler pulley sub-assembly No.2, and finally reinstall the engine assembly with transaxle.

While holding the camshaft with a wrench, tighten the camshaft timing sprocket set bolt to 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft-lbf) and check that the paint marks on the chain align with the timing marks on the camshaft timing gear and camshaft timing sprocket, as well as ensuring the crankshaft pulley groove aligns with the timing mark "0" of the timing chain cover.

Apply engine oil to the journal portion, place it on the cylinder head aligning the paint mark with the timing mark, temporarily tighten the camshaft timing sprocket set bolt, check the front marks and numbers, and install the bearing caps.

Confirm that the No. 1 valve rocker arm sub-assembly is installed correctly.

Remove the ignition coil assembly, No. 2 engine mounting stay RH, intake manifold, exhaust manifold sub-assembly RH, No. 2 engine oil level dipstick guide, No. 2 manifold stay, No. 2 exhaust manifold heat insulator, exhaust manifold sub-assembly LH, transverse engine mounting bracket, generator assembly, V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly, No. 2 timing gear cover, No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly, No. 1 engine front mounting bracket LH, radio setting condenser, No. 1 vacuum switching valve, knock control sensor wire, knock control sensor, crankshaft position sensor, No. 1 oil pipe, oil pipe, crankshaft pulley, oil cooler assembly (w/ Oil Cooler), No. 1 oil cooler bracket (w/ Oil Cooler), water inlet housing, water outlet, cylinder head cover sub-assembly (for Bank 1), cylinder head cover sub-assembly (for Bank 2), No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly, oil strainer sub-assembly, oil pan sub-assembly, timing chain cover sub-assembly, timing chain case oil seal.

Remove the No. 2 camshaft bearing, the 16 valve rocker arms from the cylinder head, and the 16 valve lash adjusters from the cylinder head, ensuring to arrange all removed parts in the correct order.

Install the chain tensioner slipper and No. 1 chain tensioner assembly with the specified torque.

Remove the No. 2 camshaft bearing, the 16 valve rocker arms from the cylinder head, and the 16 valve lash adjusters from the cylinder head, again arranging the removed parts in the correct order.

Pry the camshaft housing from the cylinder head with a screwdriver, taking care not to damage the contact surfaces.

Secure the camshaft by hand and install the installation bolt without using tools to avoid damaging the lock pin.
