Toyota Tacoma Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the front shock absorber with coil spring on Toyota Tacoma?
A: Begin front shock absorber with coil spring for 2WD installation by securing it to the body with less than full torque. You should position the coil spring lower end toward the vehicle's exterior while fitting it to the LH side and direct the lower end toward the interior when installing on the RH side. Secure the upper side bolts of the front shock absorber with coil spring by torquing them to 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft-lbf) then temporarily fasten the bolt to the nut and washer as shown in the illustration. One should first temporarily fasten the front suspension upper arm before installing the front flexible hose and skid control sensor wire. Proceed to install the front wheel then torque it to 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft-lbf). You should stabilize the suspension through vehicle lowering combined with multiple bouncing motions. Leaks should not occur from the front shock absorber coil spring nut as you tighten it to 61 ft-lbf (83 Nm, 846 kgf-cm). Also complete the tightening of the front suspension upper arm to final torque. Fasten the cable to the battery terminal with 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm) torque while inspecting the wheel alignment.
