Toyota Sequoia Axle Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear axle shaft on Toyota Sequoia?
A: Start rear axle shaft servicing and repair by taking off the rear wheel then tightening it to 110 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the Brake Line by removing the clip at 15.5 Nm (158 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Use the appropriate torque of 105 Nm (1070 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs) to eliminate the Brake Caliper and disc through the removal of its two bolts. The dial indicator must measure bearing backlash in shaft direction against a maximum of 0.6 mm (0.024 inch); if the value exceeds this limit change the bearing assembly. The surface measurement of the axle shaft outside the hub bolt requires inspection for deviations under 0.1 mm (0.0040 inch) and demands a replacement of this shaft. The parking brake assembly must be removed followed by bolt disassembly while extracting the Parking Brake Cable from the backing plate by applying 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) torque. Perform the same operation on the second side of the vehicle. To finish the procedure remove the axle shaft assembly by eliminating its 4 nuts with the specified torque of 122 Nm (1,244 kgf-cm, 90 ft. lbs.) while carefully extracting the axle shaft assembly to avoid harming the oil seal and finally removing the O-ring inside the axle housing.
