The procedure to service the front wheel stud starts with taking off the front wheel and moving onto the disc brake cylinder assembly by disconnecting the flexible hose from the
Steering Knuckle and removing the two bolts along with washers and brake cylinder but maintaining secure support for the brake cylinder assembly. Start by removing the front axle outer shaft flange through these steps: uninstall the grease cap, detach the snap ring with an expander tool and remove it before taking off six nuts and washers that need protective nuts in place before you tap the bolt heads to remove the parts and cone washers than the flange and gasket. To disassemble the front axle hub with disc start by loosening the lock washer before using Special Service Tool: 09607-60020 to remove the lock nut and lock washer followed by the adjusting nut and the axle hub with disc while being cautious about the ABS speed sensor rotor and oil seal. Safely position the axle hub and disc in a soft jaw vise that does not clamp tightly while adding matchmarks to both components when finally removing the five bolts and pressing the hub stud from the disc. The installation of the new hub stud requires an extension bar and pressing to push it inside. Then match the marks before securing five bolts on the axle hub while tightening them to 74 Nm (750 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.). Next, place the axle hub with disc onto the steering knuckle, install the outer bearing and claw washer, then install and tighten the adjusting nut using Special Service Tool: 09607-60020 to 59 Nm (600 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.), turn the axle hub several times to settle the bearing, loosen the adjusting nut until it can be rotated by hand, and then retighten it to 4.3 to 6.5 Nm (44 to 66 kgf-cm, 38 to 57 inch lbs.), checking for looseness on the bearing and measuring the preload, which should be 42 to 67 N (4.3 to 6.8 kgf, 9.5 to 15.0 lbs.). The new lock washer should be installed before tightening the lock nut to 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.) while checking the axle hub's smooth rotation without bearing looseness and measuring preload. Complete lock nut security happens when one leg of the washer bends inward while the opposite leg curves outward. The front axle outer shaft flange requires a new gasket on the axle hub before the installation of the flange followed by cone washers and washers and six new nuts which should be torqued to 33 Nm (335 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.). Select a snap ring for installation and insert it using an expander tool until the flange tip clearance reaches less than 0.2 mm (0.008 inch). Then proceed to install a fresh grease cap on the flange. Reinstall the disc brake cylinder assembly through two washers and two bolts that require 123 Nm (1,250 kgf-cm, 91 ft. lbs.) torque followed by attaching the flexible hose and bolt to the steering knuckle while torquing to 28 Nm (290 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.). Install the front wheel after tightening its torque to 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.) and verify the ABS speed sensor signal.
