Toyota Land Cruiser Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the wheel bearing on Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Begin the wheel bearing service and repair process by dismantling its components through screwdriver-assisted oil seal pry-out followed by removing the bearing from the axle hub. A brass bar should be used with a hammer to extract bearing outer races from the assembly while carefully guarding the ABS speed sensor rotor. Examine all bearing components after cleaning them for any sign of deterioration throughout the inspection process. Mount the axle hub with disc into a soft jaw vice but do not tighten the jaws before placing matchmarks on the hub and disc then removing the five bolts that separate them. Mount the disc in a soft jaw vice and align its matchmarks when installing the 5 axle hub bolts while torquing them to 74 Nm (750 kgf-cm, 54 ft. lbs). Install the new outside bearing outer race with Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 (09951-00730), 09950-70010 (09951-07100), and a hammer followed by the new inside bearing outer race using the same tools, being careful to protect the ABS speed sensor rotor. Apply MP grease to the new bearing until its outside produces excess grease while completely covering the entire bearing circumference. Apply MP grease inside the axle hub before putting the inner bearing into position. To install the new oil seal into the axle hub users should apply Special Service Tools 09950-60020 (09951-01030) and 09950-70010 (09951-07100) with a hammer and be careful not to damage the ABS speed sensor rotor while coating the lip of the oil seal with MP grease.
