Toyota Land Cruiser Ride Height Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Ride Height Sensor on Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The initial step to service and repair the height control sensor requires removal of the front height control sensor sub-assembly which starts with uninstalling the front wheel at 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.), disconnecting the connector, and sensor extraction by disconnecting the link from the height control sensor and front upper suspension arm through a nut torque of 5.6 Nm (57 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.) followed by bolt removal using 28 Nm (285 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.) torque. The same torques must be applied to the rear wheel for sensor sub-assembly removal. The procedure includes disconnecting the connector while marking the link and rear upper Control Arm before link detachment and sensor extraction using the initial torque settings. The front height control sensor inspection requires disconnecting its connector and removing the device followed by connecting three 1.5 Volt batteries in series to apply approximately 4.5 Volts between terminals 2 and 3 and measure the voltage between terminals 1 and 3 while manipulating the height control sensor link. The rear sensor inspection requires terminal 1 to be connected to the positive terminal while terminal 3 connects to the negative terminal. The height control sensor requires adjustment through an intelligent tester during a procedure where you should connect it to DLC3 then start the engine while adjusting the vehicle height to "LO" and then to "N," take multiple measurements at specified points before checking the height control sensor to be neutral with an actual vehicle height standard value of plus or minus 5 mm (0.20 inch). The height control sensor link requires adjustment which can be completed by first weakening the nut before readjusting the sensor link positions until reaching 5.6 Nm (57 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.) torque. The sensor link adjustment process requires tightening of its nuts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) after linking the nuts with sealer Part No. 08833-00070 (THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent) and subsequent traversal of the link for height adjustment by turning it clockwise to raise or counterclockwise to lower the vehicle. Use an intelligent tester to adjust the torsion bar spring after verifying an unloaded vehicle state while connecting the device and starting the engine until the right-left sides show less than 10 mm (0.039 inch) height difference and record the front Shock Absorber pressure which should be 6.5 plus or minus 0.5 MPa (70 plus or minus 5 kgf/cm2, 996 plus or minus 71 psi). Follow the adjustment process to modify the torsion bar spring if the specifications are not met. A similar procedure should be followed without an intelligent tester to drain suspension fluid AHC and install an LSPV gauge (Special Service Tool: 09709-29018) to measure pressure that must be within 5.7 + or - 0.3 MPa range (58 + or - 3 kgf/cm2, 825 + or - 43 psi). Complete the process by ventilating the air system then inspect the fluid level. The installation process follows removal procedures exactly after finishing at the reservoir with AHC suspension fluid before performing AHC system bleeding operations and leak checks.
