Toyota Highlander Yaw Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to effectively remove the Yaw Sensor on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
The first step to remove the Yaw Rate and Acceleration Sensor includes disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery with a warning about necessary initialization post-reconnection. The repair process begins by removing the Center Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Assembly (without Smart Key System) or (with Smart Key System). After that, workers should remove both Front Door Scuff Plates LH and RH and Cowl Side Trim Sub-Assembly LH and RH. The service process requires removal of the Lower Instrument Panel Finish Panel Sub-Assembly for Manual and Automatic Air Conditioning Systems and also the No. 2 Instrument Panel Under Cover Sub-Assembly and Lower Instrument Panel Sub-Assembly. The next step involves removal of the Upper Console Panel Sub-Assembly followed by the No. 2 Console Box Duct when not using the Rear Air Conditioning System besides the Lower Rear Console Box and Console Box Assembly regardless of the Air Conditioning configuration. The technician should disconnect the connector from the yaw rate and acceleration sensor by first removing the Front No. 1 and No. 2 Console Box Inserts while simultaneously unfastening the two bolts securing the sensor without touching its installation nuts.
  • Q: How to install a Yaw Sensor on Toyota Highlander?
    A:
The installation of the yaw rate and acceleration sensor should begin with the use of two bolts that require 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) torque to install. Securely position the sensor claw inside the stopper hole to protect the device and achieve proper attachment. You should now join the sensor connector properly. After installing the Front No. 2 console box insert you should move on to the Front No. 1 console box insert. Installation of the console box assembly requires the rear air conditioning system when present however the assembly is intended for installation without this accessory if the vehicle does not have the system. The next installation tasks include the lower rear console box and No. 2 console box duct without rear air conditioning system followed by upper console panel sub-assembly and lower instrument panel sub-assembly and No. 2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly. The cowl side trim sub-assembly RH along with the front door scuff plate RH gets installed before putting in the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly that works for both automatic and manual air conditioning systems. You must first remove the cowl side trim sub-assembly LH together with the front door scuff plate LH. The center instrument cluster finish panel assembly must get installed with or without the Smart Key System depending on system requirements. The final step involves connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal but follow up by initializing systems that need it followed by yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration then checking for yaw rate sensor signal.
