The Scion Fuel Door protects the filler neck against dirt and gouging fingers and provides a neat custom component to each drive. When Scion came to the scene in 2003, it was directly targeting younger shoppers who were fond of unusual colors, bare-boned pricing, and pure marketing concepts such as an online Scion City. Small but articulate, every Scion model allowed drivers to stamp a personal style and special Release Series editions sold quickly. As a mobile test bed of new ideas, Scion sold more than a million cars and drew several first-time buyers into the Toyota family and though the product was discontinued in 2016, the brand remains relevant in the design of modern small cars. The Scion Fuel Door itself is a small hinged door that shields and safeguards the cap area that is aligned with the body lines and an attempt to deter tampering: the exterior is smooth. It is not a complicated task to install a new door at home, requiring only simple tools and time to do it. To begin with, park on an even place, open the factory Fuel Door and unscrew the tether or release cable to ensure nothing snaps. When clamping the panel, take off hinge screws. Remove the old unit, and then carefully insert the new Fuel Door back in the same location, and align the hinge holes to ensure no gaps. Thread in the screws, re-screw release cable and cap tether and cycle the latch to ensure smooth opening. Slightly adjust the hinge in case the edges rub, and then close the Fuel Door evenly and continue to have a safe seal.
