- Q: How to install the exhaust pipe on 2010 Scion xB?A: The installation of an exhaust pipe begins with measuring the compression spring's length with vernier calipers so check the length reaches 41.5 mm (1.634 in.) if not install a new compression spring. Join an exhaust pipe gasket to the exhaust manifold converter before using 2 compression springs along with 2 bolts that need 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) of torque to install the front exhaust pipe. Install a new gasket on the front exhaust pipe before attaching the center exhaust pipe assembly through two bolts and No. 4 exhaust pipe supports with 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) torques. Use 4 bolts to install the front floor center brace while applying torque of 51 Nm (520 kgf-cm, 38 ft-lbf). Assess the No. 2 center exhaust pipe assembly compression spring length that must be at least 38.5 mm (1.516 in.) before replacing it if necessary. A plastic hammer and wooden block assist in installing a new exhaust pipe gasket that reaches flush with exhaust manifold and center exhaust pipe assembly while maintaining correct installation direction to prevent gasket damage and re-use. The No. 2 center exhaust pipe assembly requires installation with 2 compression springs and 2 bolts that should be torqued to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). A plastic hammer should be used to uniformly drive a new tail pipe baffle into position through its keyway which should align with the protruding part of the exhaust pipe tail. For assembly of the No. 2 exhaust pipe connect a new gasket before attaching the tail exhaust pipe assembly with its 2 bolts and No. 4 exhaust pipe support. The procedure ends by installing the heated oxygen sensor followed by leak tests on the exhaust gases prior to fitting the No. 1 engine under cover.
