2009 Toyota Yaris Rack And Pinion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the power Rack And Pinion onto the front suspension crossmember on 2009 Toyota Yaris?
A: The power rack and pinion needs to be mounted to the front suspension crossmember with 2 bolts and 2 nuts where torques should be set to 96 Nm (979 kgf-cm, 71 ft-lbf) but ensure the nut does not rotate while tightening the bolts. The front suspension crossmember requires support from a transmission jack while you attach it provisionally to the body using 6 bolts. Special Service Tool 09670-00011 should be used alternately between distinct datum holes of each front suspension crossmember to tighten bolts A, B, and C according to the specified torque of 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf) for Bolt A and 160 Nm (1,631 kgf-cm, 118 ft-lbf) for Bolt B, and 95 Nm (969 kgf-cm, 70 ft-lbf) for Bolt C. Maintaining tool vertical insertion is key. Use the tool for vertical insertion but if it remains impossible to do so then free all bolts and reinsert the tool. Use an 120 Nm torque (1,224 kgf-cm, 89 ft-lbf) to fasten the engine moving control rod. Refrain from reusing the installation sequence exclusively for the front suspension lower arms and the front stabilizer link assemblies along with tie rod end sub-assemblies on both vehicle sides. The front wheel should be torqued to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) while the No. 1 rack and pinion column hole cover sub-assembly should be mounted using clips A and B without damaging the lip portion. Follow this order to install the rack and pinion sliding yoke sub-assembly to the intermediate shaft at 28 Nm for both the yoke and bolt A. Then fit the column hole cover silencer sheet using 2 clips while placing the floor carpet. Install the cowl top panel outer with front air shutter seal followed by windshield wiper motor and link components alongside cowl side ventilator sub-assemblies and front wiper arm with blade assemblies and head cap. Once you secure the hood provisionally with 4 bolts the torque should be adjusted after verification of each fitting. A thorough inspection followed by needed adjustments must be performed on the hood sub-assembly. The cable requires tightening at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) to the negative battery terminal position the front wheels forward while inspecting the front wheel alignment. Examine the ABS speed sensor signal as the last step.
