2010 Toyota Yaris Rack And Pinion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the power Rack And Pinion from a hatchback on 2010 Toyota Yaris?
A: Maneuver the front wheels to a straight ahead position before disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal as the first step for power rack and pinion removal in a hatchback vehicle. The hood must be detached when you remove its four bolts. Begin by taking out the front wiper arm head cap and subsequently uninstalling the left and right front wiper arm and blade assemblies. To continue with the power rack and pinion removal you need to remove the hood to cowl top seal along with the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly including the left louver. The procedure requires removal of the windshield wiper motor and link followed by detachment of the cowl to register duct sub-assembly along with the cowl top panel outer. You should first remove the floor carpet and two clips to access the column hole cover silencer sheet. Use a seat belt to secure the steering wheel assembly to prevent spiral cable damage. Therefore place matchmarks on the power rack and pinion as well as the steering intermediate shaft assembly sliding yoke. Begin the procedure by loosening bolt A then removing bolt B to separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly. You must remove the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly by dislodging clip A followed by body separation of clip B. Remove the front wheel and complete the removal of the left and right front stabilizer link assemblies for both sides according to the same sequence of steps. The procedure for both sides entails disconnecting the tie rod end sub-assemblies followed by the left and right front suspension lower arm removal. The engine assembly suspension requires removal of the radio setting condenser bolt together with the air-fuel ratio sensor wiring bracket before engine hanger (Part No.: 12281-21010) installation with bolt (91642-81025) reaching a torque of 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf). Using a sling device and chain block to hold the engine assembly you should detach the bolt for the engine moving control rod before supporting it with a transmission jack to remove all 6 bolts. End the removal by detaching power rack and pinion after disconnecting all 2 bolts and 2 nuts yet maintaining the nut stationary.
