2009 Toyota Tundra Rack And Pinion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the power Rack And Pinion assembly on 2009 Toyota Tundra?
A: The power steering rack and pinion assembly installation requires securement with two bolts and two nuts whereas torquing reaches 120 Nm (1224 kgf-cm, 89 ft-lbf). The power steering rack and pinion requires the pressure feed tube to become temporarily connected while bolts secure the pressure feed tube clamp at 31 Nm (316 kgf-cm, 23 ft-lbf). Occupy the union nut wrench to tighten the pressure feed tube on its pressure tube side until reaching 22 Nm (227 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf) torque or 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf) torque without the wrench. Perform this procedure again for the return tube attachment. After installing a new cotter pin on the tie rod end sub-assembly LH you should tighten its nut to 60 degrees while torquing it to 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft-lbf). The attachment method for the tie rod end sub-assembly RH follows the same procedure as the LH side. Fasten the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and power steering rack and pinion using their matchmarks before installing the bolt at 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft-lbf). Fasten the front wheel with the placed No. 1 engine under the cover in position. When reconnecting the cable ensure to measure the battery voltage as some systems need to be initialized after performing this task. Power steering fluid bleeding must be performed for both 1GR-FE, 2UZ-FE and 3UR-FE, 3UR-FBE engines while also checking the fluid levels for these power steering types. An inspection for power steering fluid leaks is required followed by checking that both front wheels are straight before performing these steps when the vehicle is securely jacked up. Front wheel alignment should be adjusted according to requirements during the final steps.
