2009 Toyota Sequoia Cylinder Head Gasket Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the cylinder head gasket on 2009 Toyota Sequoia?
A: The installation of the cylinder head gasket for a 2UZ-FE engine begins with inspecting the cylinder head set bolt and cylinder head LH for Bank 1. Place a new cylinder head gasket on position after solvent cleaning both the cylinder block and cylinder head while following the installation direction marked by "2R" and "2L". Through correct position of the crankshaft timing pulley and compression piston TDC below, the technician should install the LH cylinder head. Use a light engine oil layer on the threads and under the heads of the cylinder head bolts before mounting it with the exhaust manifold while ensuring the mounting surface stays free of oil contamination. Use the plate washer to set each cylinder head bolt followed by bolt and washer installation and uniform torque tightening to 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf). Replace any bolts or washers that fail to meet these specifications. Perform three successive torques on the cylinder head bolts after painting their heads first so the marks will face backward when tightening to the next values. Repetitions of the clean and gasket placements for Bank 2 cylinder head gasket must be performed before final assembly of the cylinder head sub-assembly using similar procedures for Bank 1 execution. The valve lifters need installation along with shims which should rotate effortlessly before you place the rear water by-pass joint alongside new gaskets and four nuts at a torque of 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). Install the water by-pass pipe sub-assembly by using a new O-ring to push it inside the water pump before securing it with a bolt at 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). The front water by-pass joint installation requires two new gaskets and four nuts which receive torquing to 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). Complete installation of the inlet water housing while adding the intake manifold followed by connecting the No. 2 and No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assemblies. After securement of the EFI fuel pipe clamp and No. 3 water by-pass pipe remove the vacuum hose assembly. Assemble the camshaft with front No. 2 exhaust pipe followed by the front exhaust pipe before installing the outer cowl top panel sub-assembly. The service technician should install both ROH and LHS cowl top outer panel assembly and front wiper motor assembly and links and cowl top ventilator louvers and front fender to cowl side seals before applying the wiper arm and blades to both sides and connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Connect the wiper blade supply cables to the negative side of the battery terminal while keeping tension at 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). A complete inspect should be done after cable reconnection to check for leaks of oil and coolant and fuel while also checking exhaust gas leaks and verifying engine oil level and ignition timing and engine idle speed followed by installing the No. 1 engine under cover.
