    Q:
How to replace Cylinder Head Gasket No. 2 on Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the replacement of Cylinder Head Gasket No. 2 by stopping gasoline from leaking before removing the chain sub-assembly then the exhaust front pipe assembly No. 2 together with manifold stay No. 2 using the 3 bolts. The replacement requires disconnecting the A/F sensor connector and removing the 6 nuts with the exhaust manifold, along with its gasket from the exhaust manifold sub-assembly LH. Disconnection of fuel pipe sub-assemblies No. 1 and No. 2 starts the procedure before disconnecting the intake manifold, water by-pass joint RR, and chain vibration damper No. 1 by removing two of its bolts. Start by lowering the chain tensioner No. 3 to push it down and follow by inserting a 1.0 mm pin for fixation before using a wrench to hold the hexagonal camshaft portion to remove two bolts for camshaft timing gear together with the timing chain No. 2 while being mindful not to damage the cylinder head and valve lifter. The procedure starts by taking out the chain tensioner assembly No. 3 and requiring careful procedures to remove the camshafts by keeping them stable and avoiding damage. To extract the cylinder head LH you should disconnect the ground cable then loosen and eliminate the cylinder head bolts according to a specified order while lifting the cylinder head away from its dowel placement on the cylinder block but maintaining contact surface integrity. I should inspect the cylinder head set bolt using a vernier caliper to check that its outside diameter stays within the required specifications while removing Cylinder Head Gasket No. 2. To install new cylinder head gasket No. 2 you must first clean the surfaces before applying a continuous bead of seal packing (Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent). Installation of the gasket should occur within 3 minutes then the bolt tightening must finish within 15 minutes. Install the cylinder head on top of the gasket while applying engine oil to all 8 bolts. Follow the torque guideline by tightening in two steps before painting the front sides of bolts. Then proceed to retighten at an angle of 180 degrees. The repair process requires installation of two additional cylinder head bolts to which engineer oil should be applied followed by torque specification and ground cable reinstallation. Install the camshafts keeping them level then correctly position the crankshaft and apply new engine oil before installing the 8 bearing caps which require tightening bolt torque at specified values. The chain tensioner assembly No. 3 needs to be fixated with a pin before installing the camshaft timing gears and No. 2 chain (LH bank) with an accurate mark alignment followed by bolt tightening at the specified torque values. The engine service requires chaining vibration damper No. 1 alongside water by-pass joint RR and intake manifold and fuel pipe sub-assemblies No. 1 and No. 2 reattachment. Place exhaust manifold sub-assembly LH onto the engine block while using a new gasket then fasten all nuts to the mentioned torque specifications. The repair ends with the installation of manifold stay No. 2 followed by exhaust front pipe assembly No. 2 and the chain sub-assembly then comes a leak check and a speed idle check with tool 09843-18030 as well as compression and CO/HC evaluations.
