- Q: How to remove the steering knuckle on 2009 Toyota Highlander?A: To take off the steering knuckle start by removing the front wheel from both engine types before uninstalling either the 1AR-FE or 2GR-FE hub nut. Disunite the front speed sensor from the front disc brake caliper unit. Take off both front discs before splitting the tie rod system to detach the steering knuckle for 1AR-FE and 2GR-FE engines. Breaking the front suspension arm connection starts your process to take out the front axle assembly. Continue the disassembly process by taking out the front lower ball joint plus its dust deflector, the No. 1 front wheel bearing dust shield, the front axle hub hole snap ring, and the front axle hub assembly together with the dust cover. Finish by installing the bearing inner race on the front axle hub bearing before using special tools (09950-60010 and 09951-00430) and the press to detach the front axle hub bearing while keeping the steering knuckle evenly placed.
