2009 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the steering knuckle on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
A: Special Service Tools 09950-60020 and 09951-00810 enable you to install a new front axle hub bearing into the steering knuckle when assisted by a press. These installation steps consist of front disc brake dust cover followed by the front axle hub sub-assembly and front axle hub hole snap ring and then the No. 1 front wheel bearing dust deflector. First install the front lower ball joint and front axle assembly and front drive shaft assembly and then complete the installation with the front lower suspension arm. The tie rod assembly connection requires attention for both 1AR-FE and 2GR-FE engine types. You must first install the front disc brake dust cover after the front disc brake caliper assembly and the front axle hub nut. To continue remove the front disc brake caliper assembly for separation of its components including the front disc. Inspect the front axle hub bearing loosens the equipment and checks its runout before reinstalling the front disc and front disc brake caliper assembly and the front speed sensor. Obtain the front axle hub nut stake for front wheel installation that requires 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) torque. Both front wheel alignment adjustment and speed sensor signal testing should be performed during the final inspection.
