Deployment of seat belt pretensioners must be the first step before scrapping vehicles that contain this feature or when handling front seat outboard belts that have pretensioner components. Any unexpected occurrence during deployment requires customers to contact the SERVICE DEPARTMENT of TOYOTA MOTOR SALES U.S.A., INC. Front seat outer belt assemblies with pretensioners must not be discarded until their pretensioners deploy and this procedure should take place outside the local resident areas. When deploying the front seat outer belt keep at least 10 m (33 ft.) distance while wearing gloves and safety glasses for pretensioner pretreatment. After performing the operation wash your hands using water. Also avoid using water on pretensioner systems that have deployed. Deploy pretensioners through the use of Special Service Tool SRS Air Bag deployment tool which should be clear of electrical interference. The deployment function of Special Service Tools 09082-00700 and 09082-00770 should be checked using a battery connection approach where the red clip should touch the positive (+) terminal and the black clip should touch the negative (-) terminal which will result in LED illumination when pressing the deployment switch. The tool should not be utilized if the LED light turns on automatically without pressing the switch. Connect two Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 via its connectors to front seat outer belt pretensioner hardware points so as to avoid damaging the connector and wire harness. The tool needs to be placed at least 10m (33 feet) outside the vehicle. Do not break deployment until checking the vehicle is empty from inside and no persons are present in a 10m (33 feet) radius. Dispose of the front seat outer belt assembly and Special Service Tool by placing the outer belt inside a plastic bag which should be tied tightly for regular disposal of general automobile parts. touching the deployed belt requires both gloves and safety glasses because the belt remains extremely hot during the first thirty minutes after deployment. Before vehicle scrapping deploy the pretensioners of front seat outer belts then scrap the vehicle using belts which have been deployed.
