2009 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the side Mud Flaps on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
A: The installation process of side mudguards starts by applying heat to the vehicle body and side mudguard through a heat light treatment but avoid overheating it. The first step requires washing the vehicle body before eliminating residue from the upper rear door outside moulding pad. When using the rear door outside moulding sub-assembly again, thoroughly clean it before installing a new upper rear door outside moulding pad which requires two No. 3 clips and six No. 4 clips together with a new gasket. Use heat to ready both the vehicle body and rear door outside moulding sub-assembly then remove the release paper before fixing the sub-assembly in place through 8 clips which require a torque of 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf) when installing the rear door No. 2 Weather Strip. The front door outside moulding sub-assembly should undergo the same cleaning and heating procedure before removing the upper pad and installing three new No. 3 clips, eight new No. 4 clips and a new gasket together with an updated upper pad. The front door outside moulding sub-assembly needs heating before releasing the paper to allow the placement of 11 clips and securing with a 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf) nut installation until the front door Weather Strip is ready. To install the front fender outside moulding pad first remove all residue from the adhesive while also removing the release paper before installing the new pad. The technician should clean both the vehicle body and front fender moulding sub-assembly before heating them to remove the front fender side protector and install a new side protector with 2 new No. 4 clips and a new pad. After applying heat to the body and front fender moulding sub-assembly, remove the release paper from the component, attach the 3 clips, then use the 4 mm hexagon wrench to both screw in the hardware and lock the clip into place.
