- Q: How to remove and replace the Rack And Pinion on 2009 Toyota Camry?A: The first step to remove and replace the rack and pinion involves fitting the power steering rack housing heat insulator onto the power steering link assembly. The power steering link assembly should be installed with 2 bolts and 2 nuts Torque to 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf). Secure the power steering link assembly to the pressure feed tube assembly by using the clamp and two bolts that need to be torqued to 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 in-lbf). Use special service tool: 09023-12701 to achieve a torque of 22 Nm (227 kgf-cm) when tightening the pressure feed tube assembly at its pressure feed tube end or torque to 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm) if using hands only. Perform the same procedure after connecting the return tube assembly to its respective side. Follow the engine assembly installation process with transaxle according to the instructions designated for either 2AZ-FE engine or 2GR-FE engine models. Connect the left tie rod assembly to the steering knuckle through a nut while torquing it to reach 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft-lbf) before installing a new cotter pin following alignment adjustment by twisting the nut up to 60 degrees. Apply the identical procedure to both the right tie rod assembly installation. Secure the steering sliding yoke with the steering link assembly through their matchmarks before installing the bolt which requires 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft-lbf) of torque. Lay in the front wheels properly torqued to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) and attach the battery cable clamp to the negative battery terminal. The power steering system requires bleeding fluid then requires inspection and measurement of fluid levels to check for leaks while front wheels must remain facing directly forward. The last step involves wheel alignment adjustment whenever necessary.
